Michelangelo might have been onto something. A ceiling that goes beyond the ordinary to become a work of art is awe-inspiring. Fortunately, you don't need to be a genius with a paintbrush to make your ceiling pop. Check out how these artists created something inspirational out of what could perhaps be the most overlooked surface in the home. |

The elegant skylights in this narrow hallway from Suzanne Tucker Design not only make the space feel bigger but also add tons of natural light. |

The great thing about utilizing your ceiling as a design element is that the right touch can either add over-the-top elegance like this room from Belle Maison... |

Or a fun whimsical punch like this dining room from Atlanta Home and Lifestyles. Happy Monday, friends! We hope you all have an amazing week! |

Lots of drama, but the ceiling in the kitchen knocked me out completely.
What a wonderful post. These were some really great picks.

Stunning ceilings!! I think I love the first three best, not that the others aren't gorgeous but the first ones have such intriguing shapes instead of a bold print. I like that.
Gorgeous! Breathtaking. Very different from my plain ceilings... But I have decided to paint Prince William's ceiling a very ligh blue - so that we will at least get a little bit of a contrast here too!
Warm hugs to you both.

Post of the Day: A House in Malibu.
I'm in love with the bathroom above. Marking that for my bathroom renovation....one day!!
And I thought I was doing good if mine didn't have cake batter or finger prints on them.
What a wonderful, wonderful post...I'm in love with all of these images! Thanks for sharing:))
And thanks for visiting my blog and for your comment.
Really enjoying your design chic.

Wow! What a beautiful collection of inspiration pics! I especially love the barrel vaulted ceiling in the kitchen with the painted cabinetry. Thanks for sharing.
I love every image. Those rooms are gorgeous! I've always believed ceilings can be a form of architecture. We have 25% of the color of each room painted on the ceiling. I believe the ceiling is the 5th wall of room.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. Take Care.
I would just lay on the floor looking up the entire day!
I also love a good post and beam...for a country cottage.

i will sneak a nap in the child's room! wonderful post...xx
i am loving how cozy your blog is ... xx
Totally agree - a frequently overlooked design opportunity. That Peter Pennoyer is one of my favorites. And have you been following Stefan at Architect Design's posts about the Heart castle? The ceilings there are truly amazing!
DEFINITELY splendid....and your new design is lovely.

A great reminder to consider all surfaces in a room -- I have to admit, sometimes I don't give the ceilings the attention they deserve.
p.s. I floated up to the ceiling with a big smile when I saw Style Maniac listed in your blogroll~thanks, ladies!
I love it when the ceiling becomes a focal point. I am loving the paisley paper on the last image. So fun!
Beautiful. I love the idea of seeing the ceiling as a canvas that doesn't have to be blank. A friend of mine put Imperial Trellis in a more subtle beige and white on the ceiling of her 100 year-old Tudor. It creates the perfect contrast of old and new against the dark wood beams.
What an extraordinary selection of spaces, and fabulous to give ceilings the proper attention they deserve! The houseboat and the first image are quite incredible.
Thank you for your comment! And the new look is even more chic than your old - quite a feat!
My favorite is perhaps the bathroom ceiling although I'm glad I don't have to pick one.
stunning! I've always thought that a fantastic ceiling is what separates nice rooms from designer rooms - it really kicks things up a notch! :)
Absolutely STUNNING. I love the paisley brown.
I'm in love with the cavernous kitchen.
I almost did a post on ceilings today too (inspired by a DIY stenciled ceiling that I linked to on facebook yesterday) and then I decided on something else. Great minds... :-) The images you've chosen are beautiful, and that last image with the paisley ceiling is awesome!
Wow! This is such an amazing collection of pictures. I was checking out your post and a couple of colleagues actually stopped their work and came over. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! I love looking at ceilings and floors.
Those are really gorgeous:)
OMG!!!! This was a WONDERFUL IDEA! There are so many beautiful ceiling designs and what a brilliant idea on your part to feature them. My, your blog is delicious! THANK YOU FOR COMING TO VISIT WITH ME, and I need to keep my eye on your blog.....it is so hard, there are SO MANY WONDERFUL PLACES TO VISIT!!! Have a lovely day, and thanks again for such kind words dearest! Anita
Wonderful post! Too often do we forget to look up and view lovely ceilings with gorgeous details.
Have a great day!
You are so right. That is what I love about the Addison Mizner architecture featured in my last post. He does wonderful Spanish and vaulted ceilings. The images in your post of the more contemporary treatments is worth a file.
Best,
Liz
brick and wooden are my favourites, lately I fall for simplicity...
I noticed amazing windows - interior by Summerour Architects... I love it!
Hello nice girls!
The hallway by Suzanne Tucker is my absolute favorite...but there is certainly a lot of inspiration in ALL these images. thank you for sharing and thank you for much appreciated kind comment on my blog.

Some of those ceilings are glorious! For now I'm making due with low apartment ceilings, but one day... one of these would be nice ;)
xx Cristina
Crap...I am totally in love with the last picture of the wallpaper on the ceiling!
WOW! These picutres are amazing! I love seeing detail in ceilings!...Someday :)
Love your blog and all the inspiration!
Thank you!
Kristin
I am so showing this to my bathroom remodeling nyc team! The beauty of these rooms are not only found in the ceilings, it's also in the furniture, fixtures, and even open spaces.
I guess this is the most elegant home I've seen. Even the bathroom fixtures get to have the most intricate ceiling designs. Love it!
