Things We Love: Double Front Porches

Watermark Coastal Homes

Southern Living
Oh my Lord, do we ever love a double front porch.

Double front porches are the perfect place for saying "hey, y'all" to the neighbors as they stroll down the street.

Or welcoming guests who stop by after church -- while on their Sunday drive, of course.

You could invite them in for a sweet tea.

But, if you ask us, we'd rather sip it right there on the porch.

If you really love double front porches, maybe you could take on these two. Kind of looks like the Beaufort house... All we can say is, if you decide to restore a pair of historic front porches for your own summer settin', well, darling, bless your heart.

While we have a double front porch it looks nothing like these fabulous porches, love them. Love hanging out on ours during the warmer months. It's one degree here with blowing wind so I'm looking forward to the warmer months on our porches.

Our lake cabin has a double front porch, and we enjoy them both! Lovely post.

Loved this blog post. Love the South. Love porches. What can I say. I have a Southern House in Middle America. I am on the Mississippi and have 5 porches, all with a river view and a couple of double ones. I know all so well about them. They are not without there problems. Can be a lot of work to keep clean, repaired, painted and on and on, but I feel worth it. Thanks for sharing. Richard from My Old Historic House.

You have me eagerly anticipating this April's trip to Charleston and Kiawah as I gaze out the window behind my desk onto a frigid (4 degrees right now!) and frozen snow-covered landscape.

What a lovely post. I grew up in a home outside Atlanta with a big front porch and we have so many great memories from there. Love them.

Give me a Southern home, an iced tea (unsweet, please) and the smell of magnolia and I am in HEAVEN!!!! It has been so cold up here, I keep telling Grant that I must move South as soon as the boys are out of school. OK, that's going to be a while, but I'll be dreaming of warm days and nights and a big double wide, as in porches!

Happy New Year, y'all!

My father was born in New Orleans and my cousins (Paula, Pam, Pat, and Penny;) still reside there. When we visit I always enjoy the house tours and visiting some of the original plantations. Just gorgeous.. there something about southern living, right? :)

They definitely conjure up images of sitting in a wicker rocking chair sipping a mint julep with a fan in hand. lol.

Ah, porches! Such a charming Southern touch.

I just returned from visiting my in-laws in North Carolina and while they don't have a double porch they do have a side porch where they gather for a cocktail every evening. I've often thought that ritual is one reason for their long and happy marriage.

Thank you so much for letting me know the builder of this incredible home! The credit I had given was a tumblr since there was no designer listed.
