Things We Love: Brass Faucets

Good morning, readers! We hope all is well with you today! You know we love your emails, so we were so excited when our friend Patti emailed us about her fabulous new kitchen!

She, like us, loves to mix gold and silver. And she was wondering: should she use brass in the kitchen? (Although, she mentioned that it seems to be called “gold” these days. Brass is a bad word!)

We totally get the worry of a resale nightmare. We’ve all seen that house that is so 80s it would take a bulldozer to de-80s it.

But, we think that brass, gold, whatever you want to call it, when done right, is positively fabulous!

We always hate to use the word “timeless” because, well, at some point fifty years ago someone probably thought her harvest gold floor tiles were timeless… So, you know….

But, for the foreseeable future, we think the gold/brass situation is here to stay.

In fact, looking at these gorgeous kitchens, we’re sort of feeling like brass may be in and stainless making its way out again.

But, like Patti, we love to just mix all those metals together!

Patti, if we were you, we’d go for it!

We think an unlacquered brass makes it feel fresh.

And, of course, send us photos when you’re finished!

What about you, friends? Do you love the brass? Would you stick with stainless? Would you go a different way?

We’d love to hear what you would love most in your luxe kitchen! Thanks so much for stopping by!

Thank you so much for your lovely collection of kitchens with brass. You sealed the deal for me. I am going with unlacquered brass and…….stainless. You may be printing your second book when this kitchen is done, but I will provide you with pictures. Visual this: bleached oak and white cabinets, marble counters, cobalt blue Viking range, stainless fixtures, and a 15 foot window in the main kitchen. Back kitchen (Bistro, wet bar, dish pantry, and food and wine pantry) cobalt blue cabinets, brass fixtures, marble counter and 8 foot window. Do I sound like I am worried about resale? Always. Thanks again for your post.

  4. Well, everything old is new again! The brass suddenly looks fresh and current……..amazing! I’m kind of loving those bi-fold doors separating the kitchen from the living area too. It’s sort of nice for when your kitchen’s a mess after entertaining!

  5. I just purchased pewter for my kitchen! Wish I could change! Best art of the post is that wonderful book of yours!! I LOVED it!! xo

  6. Patti’s kitchen sounds like it’s going to be amazing! I really do hope she sends you pics when it’s complete! All of these kitchens are gorgeous. I adore Brooke Gianetti’s kitchen and am a big fan of mixing metals. Beautiful post!

  7. Amazing…..When I replace my kitchen faucet it will be brass. We have a mixture of all the metals all working together throughout our home. My hardware on my cabinets and drawers say it all…..Each one is different. Great whimsy and a fabulous conversation opener when we have guests.

  8. I love the look of brass / brushed gold in a kitchen. It’s fresh! i don’t think stainless will go out of style but eventually brass will. It’s like white appliances or stainless appliances. Not going anywhere. Remember the Harvest Gold appliances. How many of us wished we had stuck to ” our mother’s” white appliances, as we replaced perfectly good ones. If you have the money to change up handles and lighting, then go for it! It has a more feminine, romantic look about it.

  9. I love the unlacquered brass (gold). I went with stainless appliances back in 2003 when we gutted our kitchen, used pewter knobs, chrome faucet and there is an antique brass chandelier hanging over the bar. I’m an equal opportunity user where metal is concerned. :-)

I’m with you. I love the look of mixing the brass with the stainless and i would absolutely love to steal that cobalt blue range…Georgeous combo. Cudo’s to her architect and design team. Those beams are fantastic with the entire look and the layout is also another gem.

That is going to be a Five Star Kitchen all the way upon completion….Congratulations to all on a job more then well done….

    Warmest regards to all….NKW

  11. That gold faucet is fantastic!!!

  12. I love brass on kitchen hardware – esp the brass that’s out now that is more muted than the brass of the past. I think it’s very chic and edgy.

  13. I adore anything and everything brass. There is major eye candy here. Makes me want to gut my kitchen and renovate it all over again!!!! A girl can dream, right?!

  14. I used to hate brass faucets, but with the newer and more modern look, these babies make the sink feel opulent!

  15. Yes to brass….or gold! I am dying to rip out my faucet but I think my husband would kill me:)
