Gender Neutral Nurseries

digsdigs

Mom and I have had the chance to decorate bedrooms, bathrooms, dens, foyers, living rooms, dining rooms, sunrooms and kitchens in our own homes -- with, admittedly, help from the pros when need be! But the one room we've never had a chance to daydream into reality is a beautiful nursery... until now! We thought it was time to share with all of our blog-following friends that my husband Will and I are expecting our first little one in September.

Chicsack Nursery

This post also comes with an apology. The past couple of months we might have been a little less than punctual with our posts, especially on the writing end, because, contrary to my visions of myself as a glowing, downward facing dogging pregnant person, I woke up at about four weeks with "morning" sickness and have been waiting for it to dissipate ever since... I think we all have to tell ourselves that we are going to be those glowing mothers with the inner calm to get pregnant in the first place! Sort of like how we tell ourselves that our child won't throw spaghetti on the white couch like our friends' children, even though, deep down, we know there's at least a crayon wall mural in our futures.
Amy D. Morris Design

For the first several weeks, Will and I told ourselves and each other that we were going to let the sex of this little one be a surprise and have a gorgeous, gender-neutral nursery like one of these. Now, though, with the date of that magical ultrasound where they ask the inevitable question, "Do you want to know what it is?" looming only a couple of weeks away, we've lost all self control and just have to know!
Christina Murphy Interiors

The mother in me doesn't care at all whether this baby is a boy or girl, but the decorator sort of does. Neutral is, of course, one of our all-time favorite color palettes, but when you start shopping all that pink and blue can be quite seductive...

Cottage Living
Plus, in our house, we have one bedroom and bath that already lends itself very well to a boy, while another seems to be more girlish. I'm going to take pics sometime this week and let all of you see if you agree.

Decorpad

This picture may be partially to thank for me realizing I was expecting in the first place. We posted it, and, while musing how precious it was, I realized I hadn't been feeling well lately.... Six positive pregnancy tests later...

Pink or blue, there are definitely Moroccan poufs in this nursery's future.

Okay, so we promise that Design Chic isn't going to turn into a baby blog. But can you humor us for a few more days while we let you know what we're thinking for nurseries? We hope so! We need feedback from all of our stylish friends!

Happy Monday, everyone. We hope it's an amazing week!

Congratulations!!! Your life will never be the same... it will be so much better :)
After I had our son, who is now a freshman in college, I wondered how I ever lived without him!
Good Luck with your pregnancy and the wonderful journey ahead.

This is such exciting news. I can remember when I found out that I was expecting with both of mine. Such a beautiful time in your life.
I love the first nursery and also love the taupe in one of the nurseries.
It is difficult to decide here with so many beautiful options, but with neutral, as I used with my first because I wasn't certain what I would have, it is so easy to add color with fabric and paint.
Have a great day, and congratulations.

What sweet nurseries! I love the gender neutral theme.
Sorry you have had such morning sickness. An old wives tale says lots of thick hair and bright eyes! It will all be worth the wear and tear!

OMG!!! I'm sooo excited for you! Now I get Beth's comment today! :-) I'm trilled for you, the mommy and your mother, the grandma. I'm really happy for you... it's such a special moment. But it's true, sometimes it takes all of our energy. I just found out I'm pregnant too and I'm feeling so tired! I know I won't be able to spend too much time online as I used to. We have to take it easy. :-)

I love all the beautiful nurseries. You've inspired me. :-)

Have a wonderful week, sweetie.

WOW!!!! Huge congratulations to you! I am so happy for you (and a wee bit jealous-sniffle) Nothing as exciting as planning a babies nursery.....so much sweetness in one room. Plus the choices today are just limitless! I love all the images above however the chicksak and decorpad nurseries really appealed to me in all their neutral glory.
In pale tones...I also love pink and blue but its all about (to me at least) making the colors really milky so they aren't bright...there are so many gorgeous fabrics, furniture and accessories for babies nurseries today. Plus you can get really creative with a great overstuffed chair/ottoman, cute bookcases...the sky is the limit. You are going to have a ball....hope you are feeling better!!

So, so happy for you and Will! Congratulations! Really great news. You can bet we're all waiting for all the baby rooms because I think they are the most fun and imaginative rooms to decorate.

There are SO many more options than even 6 years ago when I had my youngest.

Keep it coming....I won't be decorating another nursery, so I'll enjoy watching yours become a reality!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I feel som happy for you guys!
So much fun you and your mom is going to have decorating the nursery!
I love the neutral color palettes in the beginning of this post. I remember an image I saw many years ago in an IKEA- catalogue that had a warm white color painted on the walls combined with antique- stained furniture pieces and flooring, soft sheepskins, a warm white rug...
'LEKSVIK' that you´ll find today at IKEA looks somewhat the same.
I also adore a very light and soft yellow in a room like this.
Good luck, I´m sure you´ll find the perfect theme and color palette for your nursery!
Sending lots of love all the way from Sweden:)!

First of all, congratulations!!! Being a g-mom changes your life forever. I tell Jordan if I only had them first!!! I have to say that first nursery is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. Simply stunning. And if it's a girl, that little dress painting would just add the perfect amount of pink (wink, wink)
Great finds!

Wow! This must be a great time for you. I remember how we faced this same dilemma when we wanted to decorate the nursery around the time my sister-in-law was pregnant with my niece.

I am sure that whatever you do, the final look of the nursery is going to be a stunner. And please, more baby related posts. We all know what's topmost on your mind and are honored to be a part of it.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! How exciting for your whole family! I am so happy for you ladies...designing a nursery would have to be one of the most fun rooms to design. You can be whimsical and silly or tame and neutral...anything goes really. I have a feeling that your baby's room will be so chic, yet warm and inviting. That is how I see you two ladies, chic and kind. Seriously so happy for you and your whole family...what a joy!
