Black Doors

Tony Ingrao and Alexis Gregory Design

We know that every room needs a punch of it, so it's always nice to find an interesting way to incorporate black in a not-so-basic way. Outside, nothing makes a statement quite like a black front door. Inside, a black door is a startling, welcome departure from the expected white. Here are a few of our favorite uses of black doors.

Black doors work so dramatically with so many different styles of architecture -as you have illustrated here with your selections so beautifully. Matte, gloss, all good in black!

We are in love with black doors. Had a house completely designed with them ready to break ground and the economy stepped in. Hope we still get to build with them. This project was going to be so much fun.

I love the black doors. They make such a statement. They wouldn't show dirt and little hand prints.

Love black doors anywhere and everywhere. They look amazing. As we can't have a black front door because we face west and it gets too hot I am having one on the inside of the front door - so excited.

Love black doors...especially on the inside of a home. When we lived in Charlotte, it was my first introduction to darkly painted interior doors. So chic!!!

Hope you're having a beautiful fall and that baby Will is doing well!!

Your beautiful immages are an inspired reminder that black is a color, too - that it doesn't have always be tucked away and used as an accent.

Cheers,
John

There's a design tip I've heard: every room needs a drop of black. Wish I could remember source, but I've found it to be very true.

Love these doors, all of them! I love doing mouldings same color as the walls and then dark doors, either stained wood or painted. Great examples!

Oh I so LOVE black doors! My MIL is buying a house and it has wonderful black doors throughout…the realtor told us that the lady who owns it says…'the first thing I do to ANY house I buy is paint ALL the doors black." It apparently drives her husband crazy…LOL!
Hope all is well,
Amy

I adore black doors. My entry is black but when I repaint I am going to make sure it has more of a gloss! Hope you have a fabulous weekend! xo

Beautiful inspiration....

I recall when we painted our door black ten years ago, some thought we were crazy! I adore the black and white check flooring in that one entry way you showed. The bench and plant makes the space instantly welcoming...

Hope you are having a lovely weekend so far... thank you also for your kind comments :)

A glossy black door makes such a chic entrance into a home. With a neoclassical door knocker in brass or silver, what could be better?!

Ugh! I remeber hiring a man to paint my front door. We went to the store to buy paint.
"You never want a glossy door", he said.
"I do", I replied.
He argued until I relented. Now I have a flat black, dirty looking door. I knew better but I wimped out! LOL!
I will be painting all the doors in my home black...glossy!
Thank you for the lovely inspiration!
